Heavenly Rendezvous
Tonight, I had the opportunity to catch the heavenly rendezvous of Venus and Saturn with the young waxing crescent moon. To capture this lovely threesome, I had to select a location with an undisturbed view towards the west, and hope that there wouldn’t be any dense haze on the horizon. I found the perfect spot at the El Sauce Observatory (Río Hurtado, Chile) and was rewarded with a clear view to the horizon.
At the time the images were taken, the moon was 27 hours and 51 minutes old and only 2% of its disk was illuminated. If you look closely, you can detect some faint features of the moon in the earthshine. Venus was shining very brightly, which made identifying Saturn with the naked eye a bit of a challenge.
